This is a family picture from years ago, but it is one of my favorites because it is one of the few with ALL my siblings, and several cousins (who may as well be siblings). This may be a summer picture, but I like it for Thanksgiving. Family, above all!
Thanksgiving week has been bad for eating and exercising. It didn’t help that this morning I woke with a raging throat. I’m taking care of it now, hoping that by Monday morning I can get back to my regular schedule at the gym. Throat or not, we are visiting our son at his home this afternoon for a Thanksgiving-type meal. By Monday I will have missed 4 days at the gym. Each time this happens it feels like starting over when I get back, but I’ll do it.
At least I haven’t overeaten too much. Thanksgiving was at my sister’s and I had one plate with small helpings of most dishes. No seconds (except for my salad) and no desserts. I was full enough, but not too full. And we don’t have a lot of left over food at home, which is good.
Politics is still making the news. A lot of people are alarmed at the names being broadcast for cabinet posts. I am particularly alarmed at the nomination for Secretary of Education. It is a woman whose only qualification seems to be that she is a billionaire who contributed millions to the campaign of He Who Shall Not Be Named (HWSNBN). This person has no educational experience – NONE. Not even as a front line teacher. The only educational position she has taken is the desire to give the wealthy tax breaks for sending their children to private schools, and to funnel public funds to private/charter schools at the expense of public schools. If nothing changes it appears we are entering a period of helping the rich at the expense of the rest of us.
However, there may be hope on the horizon. A third-party candidate has raised money for, and filed for, a recount of votes in, I think, Wisconsin. Realistically, I don’t think the outcome will change, but I’m glad something is being done. It would be great if they could find hard evidence of Russian hacking, but that may be hoping for too much. I am convinced Putin ordered his security/internet experts to interfere with our election any way possible.
Something else that disturbs me is that those foolish enough to vote for HWSNBN do not seem to realize they voted for Putin’s best bud. Remember, Putin is also best buds with Assad in Syria, and together they have bombed the holy hell out of Assad’s own people. Together they have destroyed hospitals and schools and civilian neighborhoods. Together they have murdered many, many children. This is the type of person the Cheeto admires.
Yes, there are many things to question about HWSNBN. His supporters think he is the only person who understands the needs of the blue-collar worker, the unemployed, etc. Really?? This person who lives in the gold-covered penthouse of a NY skyscraper he owns??? And when I say “gold” I mean it. I couldn’t listen to his interview on 60 Minutes because all my attention was taken by his surroundings. I’ve never seen so much gold in my life!! Yep, a real man of the people….
Until next week…..
